The place

About this destination

Twelve unhurried days down the Côte d'Azur and into Provence, strung between four of the most storied addresses in the South of France. You start on the Cap-Ferrat peninsula, drift west through Antibes and Cannes to Saint-Tropez, and finish inland among the vineyards — the whole glittering coast in one slow, luxurious arc.

My experience

This is the Riviera at its most indulgent — a palace hotel every few nights, a different stretch of coast each morning, and long lunches by the sea in between. It is built to be savoured rather than rushed: give it the full twelve days, and let Monaco, Saint-Tropez and quiet Provence each have their moment.

Logistics

Getting there & around

01 · Getting in

Fly into Nice Côte d'Azur (NCE) — the gateway to the whole Riviera, with private transfers, helicopters and onward roads radiating from it.

02 · Between stops

This route runs Cap-Ferrat → Antibes → Saint-Tropez → Provence, easiest with a pre-arranged car and driver along the coast. A short helicopter hop (Nice ↔ Monaco or Saint-Tropez) is a glamorous time-saver in season.

Coastal traffic is heavy in July–August — build in extra time, or fly over it.

03 · Departing

End at Nice (about 1.5–2 hrs from the Château de Berne) or Marseille (about 1.5 hrs), depending on your flight home.

The fine print

Tips & cultural notes

Practical tips

  1. 01

Late May–June or September is the sweet spot: warm seas and golden light without the August crush.

  2. 02

Pampelonne beach clubs (Club 55, Gigi, Loulou) need reservations days ahead in season.

  3. 03

For one day on the sand, do Club 55 for the classic Saint-Tropez; for the second, Gigi or Loulou for the glamour.

Cultural notes

  1. 01

Dress is smart-casual by day and properly glamorous by night, especially in Monaco and Saint-Tropez.

  2. 02

A little French goes a long way — always open with 'bonjour'.
